Existence | Digital has come to change the concept of existence in a large way. Photos, film, the dots on a map which we can information-based services, and lightwaves are two dimensional, and humans have evolved these to exist as three dimensional matter. We incorporate a fourth dimension to give rise to an even newer existence. That dimension we call time, through which lengthy histories rise and become societal symbols. We travel between the second and third dimensions, hoping to be filtered through time. To exist, in terms of time as a dimension, is to achieve an everlasting honeymoon with memory.

Fiction | What kind of effect has fiction had on humankind? Magic, deception, fabrication, shallow trickery. It seems there is one side of fiction that contradicts the transparency that modern society values. However, when you dive in and experience fiction in the form of a story, you return with the ability to understand realism and even expand beyond it. If the power of realism is felt directly in "the way things are," then surrealism is more indirect, a fiction that has the power to leap a large abyss like a metaphor. This power bears the ability to unite things in modern society that seem not to have any apparent connection. We believe that the source of modern creativity is in reality and fiction which, like a double sided mirror, cannot be parted.

Birth | Those who gained wisdom by eating the forbidden apple fruitmust live carrying their original sin.We can relate this to how humansexit from the comfort of their mother's womb, and in the process of developing wisdom, they subconsciously become impure as they are forced to feed on others for survival. However, there is a beauty in how we struggle, make decisions, and find meaningin this transient life of ours.

Aging | Turn fragility inside out and we may find beauty, Beauty can be found in semipermanent things, but as the Japanese contemplated the “appreciation of the fleeting nature of beauty,” it is in herently something that is taken away from us. The definition of beauty has wavered as it sifted through thousands of years of time, and the beauty of balloons is still in a state of fragility. The balloon is rather frail in comparison to its stronger counterparts andunlike other semipermanent objects, it has a considerably short lifespan. We can talk extensively about what beauty is because all things that once took shape will age and face an imminent death. Beauty itself appears in how we seek the unattainable answer to what beauty is. It conflicts with our purpose and shards of decay pierce through the passing of time.

Imagination | There is an abundance of imagination that lays dormant within adelusion. However, that imagination is nonexistentuntil it takes on a tangible form or symbol. All imagination must pass through a deep tunnel to become reality. The darker the tunnel the imagination is in, the more detail we see when a light shines onto it.

DNA dress | DAISY BALLOON
Photographer | Kenji Kubo

Björk “DNA Dress” | After hearing about the concept for Bjork's live performance, Biophilia, which means "an appreciation of life," we experimented with the theme of predicting the future of the 21st century via science and nature. Generally, science and nature conflict with one another, as they are "things created by humans" and "things created by non-human phenomena," respectively. We have a tendency to define ourselves by looking from different angles to understand the physical territory we occupy, but like the double helix structure of DNA, our culture is passed onto the next generation through the formation of oppositions and unions. When we delve into those unions, we are taken back to the origins of the universe which is where our existence was first created. The creation of new life, then, holds a comprehensive meaning that encompasses even the conflict between science and nature.

Overturn | Preconceived notions are accepted widely by society and shared amongst the masses. These notions which have been developed as common knowledge with each layer of history has created a thick wall that can potentially block the fluidity that exists within our society. When fluidity is lost, society become exhausted and faces a massive death. In the way that our cells promote regeneration by way of apoptosis, we must accept the small deaths and embrace fluidity within ourselves.

Bubbles | Liquids and bubbles which indicate the presence of gas do not have a particular place of belonging. It suggests the temporary nature of phase transition. Bubbles are made up of gas and a membrane that gives it shape, and when that membrane bursts, it returns to nothing. All bubbles vanish at their final destination. Solids and liquids eventually fade away. There is nothing perpetual about their existence, and as they foretell us of their own fate, they give us a glimpse of both illusion and reality.

A Different Nature | In theory, it would be impossible to fuse different substances together even if they were composed of the same basic elements. In the example of water and oil, when they are oppositional by nature, they will neither yield to one another nor blend. However, where different substances cannot merge, an understanding can be reached. To understand the nature and individuality of different beings; to understand history and the meaning of life is to know oneself and have an awareness of our common origins. It is none other than a constructive process of building a future with the things around us.

Beauty | All living organisms are destined for death the moment they are born. Most flowers begin as a seed, grow petals, wither, bear fruit, then return to seed.In this process, there is a moment in which beauty casts its hue. However, beauty itself cannot be permanently captured in that moment, so why is it that the concept of beauty even exists? What is the meaning contained within this thing we call beauty which eventually decays away? A flower boasting its full bloom is a symbol of beauty, but inside, it carries an inherent ugliness. Take the interpretation of beauty, and when you sway it, it looks as though the swaying motion itself becomes what is beautiful.

Genetics | Vital to the fate of an organism is the passing of DNA onto the next generation. The heart seed vine, whose name contains both heart and seed, has an appearance similar to a balloon. It too leaves behind its DNA by sending its seeds far into the distance in their heart shaped pods. Inanimate objects, as we know, do not contain the type of DNA information stored in seeds. However, the Japanese arts and spirit have a supernatural aura and a life force that continue to be inherited like genetics.

Aging | There is fear in that we are all different from one another, but that is also the gateway to self-consciousness.Self-consciousness was once whole, but in the modern trend where all things whole get broken down, it too is about to get deconstructed. For that reason, people now seek to reconstruct their consciousness by extending it onto others.Through this process of extension, we have learned to unravel things down to their basic elements. We are succeeding at digging up new knowledge of what it is we all share. This knowledge that bonds different people together seems to appear suddenly, but in reality it is already coded into our planet, our universe. We construct things from the most basic building blocks. What are we to discover from this process? To find the answer, we must continue to turn our gaze toward those around us.

Exuviation | In our eyes, there are no two moments that are identical. We are forced to grow without being able to reflect back in satisfaction. However, there is a beauty in that very moment. When our soul can no longer be contained within our body, it goes on a quest in search of a new vessel. The empty shell left behind is proof that we lived. We struggle in this brief moment we call life, but there is something to be treasured in that.
