DAISY BALLOON will exhibit the balloon shell artwork, Roots: The Gathering of Life, at the Shukusai Plaza on the 9th floor of Hankyu Umeda Main Store and premiere the Hankyu Department Store x DAISY BALLOON collaborative work, Apple bear. The display will feature up to 10 of each of the four bear designs.
Balloon Shell, an installation that hangs from the 1st floor windows and the ceiling of the 9th floor Shukusai Plaza, is a construction of shells. The shells are made by wrapping and hardening white thread around a balloon and extracting it to leave just the outer sculpted shell. The balloon remnants extracted from the shell are placed back inside Apple bear, representing the cycle of nature and the micro universe which expands like the cosmic universe. This work has also extended to becoming the key visual for this area-based event, Osaka Art & Design. The visual is a graphic design based on macro photographs of our Apple bear work. Apple bear | Apple Bear is one of the creations of the Animal Font Project in which each letter of the alphabet is represented by an endangered species (A=Apple bear). Following the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011, the Animal Font Project was then developed as an application to raise awareness of natural disasters related to global warming and climate change, becoming a symbolic work that opened new avenues for DAISY BALLOON. Apple bear, which features an apple motif symbolizing many things including birth, knowledge, love, and creativity, is a reminder for us to return to our origins = our portrait.
